Transit Insurance
Are Your Worldly Possessions Properly Insured For Your Move?
Most home insurance companies do not cover international moves. King’s Transfer International can provide you with coverage designed to protect your goods against the risks associated with moving by road, rail, air, or sea.

Although our Montreal international movers are skilled and trained, exercising extreme care and attention to your possessions during packing, loading, delivery & unpacking, it is essential to remember that your belongings will travel by road, rail, air, or sea, which carries unforeseen risks. Your personal insurance policies (home owners, renters, or automobile insurance policies) will likely not cover your personal belongings while they are in transit to a foreign country. Therefore, we highly recommend transit protection to ensure that you are appropriately compensated in the event of an unfortunate incident causing damage or loss.
King’s Transfer International offers three different options to choose from:
- Total loss only
- Standard Insurance
- Enhanced Insurance
How do I get transit insurance?
To obtain insurance for your possessions, you will be required to complete an Application Form for All-Risk Coverage and sign where indicated. A completed valued inventory form must be submitted to your King’s Transfer International coordinator at least two business days before the export of your move. If you elect not to protect your possessions during transport, you will be required to sign an insurance waiver releasing King’s Transfer International and its partners from any/all liability.

Land Shipments
Truck or Rail Moving
Land or ground shipments are typically done by truck; however, in some instances, rail is an option.

Ground Transportation is Typically More Affordable
Land transportation is required to take your shipment from its place of origin to the airport or seaport and then to its final destination. Ground transportation is typically more affordable than air but more costly than sea, especially when moving to underdeveloped countries. Sometimes, ground transportation is used from the origin to the final destination.

Sea Container Moving
If your shipment is going by sea, it will be loaded into an overseas shipping container. Whether you need only a small portion of a 20-foot container or a large 40-foot container or more, a sea container is the standard method for shipping your goods.

Less-Than-Container Load
When you only need a small portion of a container, referred to as a “Less-Than-Container Load” (LCL), your goods will be prepared in smaller, individual shipping crates, also known as lift vans, and then placed into a larger shipping container.
To determine which method is right for you, our Montreal international movers start by assessing the volume of your shipment to determine the correct crate or container size. Other factors, such as the speed of delivery, may also influence the decision, along with security and price.
A 20-foot sea container holds approximately 850–1,050 cubic feet and is usually large enough to fit a 1- to 2-bedroom house or one vehicle with a few household items.
A 40-foot sea container holds approximately 1,850–2,200 cubic feet and is typically suitable for a 3–5-bedroom house or one vehicle and a 2-bedroom house.
An Entire Container
If you require an entire container, it will be brought to your home. After your goods are prepared for shipping, they are loaded directly into the container, which is then sealed. If you have a smaller shipment or your home does not have access for a truck and trailer, the shipment is loaded onto a King’s truck and then transferred to the sea container at our warehouse.

Air Shipments
If you’re going overseas to work or study, or you have a sea container move and need some items quickly until your goods arrive in your new country, an air shipment may be a great option for you.
Move Quickly Through Air Freight
When your possessions need to be moved quickly, air freight is the best solution compared to sea or road transport. The flights are very reliable – even a missed flight would not cause much delay, as there are multiple flights departing to/from many different destinations every day. This means that we can ship your possessions to almost anywhere in the world!

Shipping your personal belongings by air provides a higher level of security, with reduced risk of theft and damage. Airport security and safety controls on cargo are very tightly managed, thus reducing exposure to theft and damage.

Consider Size and Weight
When pricing an air shipment, the overall volume and weight of the shipment, along with the cost of preparing your belongings for air, will determine the final shipping cost. Although we can provide costing based on any volume and weight, here are a few options of pre-sized air containers we can offer you;
